CapStar Bank CEO Tim Schools has recruited a longtime banker from the former BB&T to be the bank s Middle Tennessee market president.
Tom O’Connor has joined CapStar as the $3 billion lender is ramping up its hiring engine and aiming to take its loan growth 5 percent in 2020 up a gear. He will lead the 12-year-old bank’s business development and customer service efforts in the greater Nashville market, taking over the president role from Ken Webb, who is now Middle Tennessee chairman. Webb, who helped launch CapStar and was its chief development officer, had been in the regional role since August 2019, shortly after Schools joined the bank.

Mike Abelow, member at Sherrard Roe Voigt and Harbison, has been named 2021 president of the Nashville Bar Association.
Abelow litigates complex business disputes, with a focus on business disputes that involve either party threatening to or filing for bankruptcy. He was a litigator with the Federal Trade Commission before moving to Nashville in 2007.
Before becoming a board member of the NBA, Mike chaired the Federal Courts Committee and the Sister Cities Committee. In addition to his work with the NBA, he is a board member of the Tennessee Justice Center, which he served as board president, the Nashville Urban Debate League and Seven Hills Swim and Tennis Club.
CapStar Bank has added a former JPMorgan Chase vice president to its middle-market business banking team.
Wes Barringer has joined downtown-based CapStar as a senior VP and commercial relationship manager focused on the Nashville metro market. He will work with private companies and their owners as well as real estate investors. Barringer has more than 20 years of banking experience and had been with JPMorgan Chase for about three years. Before that, the Brentwood resident, who earned his economics degree from the University of Virginia and an MBA degree from the University of North Carolina, worked in the commercial lending groups at Old National Bank and U.S. Bank, among others.
