Will schools mandate the COVID-19 vaccine?

Kids who are 12-to-15-year-olds could get the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine as early as Thursday in New York. The question now on many parents minds is will their children s schools eventually mandate it?
So far, the state has not made a final decision, but New York City s schools already said it won t - but that could change once a vaccine gets full FDA approval.
The president of the Yonkers Federation of Teachers - Westchester s largest teacher’s union - agrees.
There have been nearly 4 million COVID-19 cases reported in children since the start of the pandemic - about 14% of all cases - though virtually no deaths, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics. However, kids are known to spread the virus, which could factor in the ultimate decision.

Pomp and circumstance are back on for tens of thousands of students in the Hudson Valley.
New York will allow graduation ceremonies starting next month with restrictions depending on venue size and location.
Planning is currently underway in White Plains to host an in-person outdoor graduation in just over two months.
The district says it s critical to make sure the class of 2021 gets the graduation they deserve.
Here are the rules in New York:
Outdoor ceremonies:
- For more than 500 people, capacity will be capped at 20% of the location s maximum seating with a vaccine or negative COVID-19 test.

Outdoor ceremonies:

Standardized testing is happening for students this year.
It’s something the federal government hopes will reveal the
pandemic’s impact on education.
The decision by President Joe Biden wasn’t expected
considering school officials from the Hudson Valley and across the state have
been urging the federal government to hold off on standardized testing this
year.
As the pandemic throws a curveball at standard learning, the
government wants to know where students stand in their education.
