WHITEHALL, MI – Muskegon County wastewater staff were working to contain a sewage spill in the city of Whitehall Saturday.
The spill occurred near Lake Street and Colby Street, and was noticed by a citizen around 11:30 a.m. Feb. 20, said Dave Johnson, Muskegon County’s wastewater director.
Johnson told MLive around 2 p.m. Saturday that he could not guess how much had spilled. He was awaiting the arrival of pumper trucks so that a nearby pump station could be turned off and the spill could be stopped. The cause of the leak was a leaking air vacuum valve, Johnson said.
