Restrictions on Discretionary Payments - CBSL

Sunday, 24 January 2021 - 8:36 The Monetary Board of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka having considered the possible adverse impact on liquidity and other key performance indicators of licensed commercial Banks and licensed specialised banks due to the covid-19 outbreak and the importance of maintaining appropriate levels of liquidity and capital buffers have issued a set of direction for restriction on discretionary- payments of licensed banks.  Therefore, licensed banks are directed for the following; 1. Defer payment of dividends until the financial statements of 2020 are finalised and audited by its external auditor. 2. Shall defer repatriation of profits not already declared for financial years 2019 and 2020 until all the financial statements of 2020 are finalised and audited by its external auditor.

Pakistan secures $5.688b external loans

Top Story January 21, 2021 ISLAMABAD: While officially confirming to have received $1 billion from China as safe deposits after paying back to Saudi Arabia, Pakistan has received a total $5.688 billion external loans during the first six months (July-Dec) of the current fiscal year 2020-21. However, this time Islamabad managed lesser amount of $5.915 billion than the same period of the last fiscal. It indicates that Pakistan received $227 million less in the first six months of the current fiscal compared to the same period of the last financial year. According to official figures of the Economic Affairs Division (EAD), during July-December of fiscal year 2020-21, the government received $5,688 million total external inflows from multiple financing sources, which are 46 percent of annual budget estimates of $12,233 million for the entire fiscal year 2020-21. Indian-made COVID vaccine to be exported from today

Wednesday, 20 January 2021 - 9:32 The Indian Ministry of External Affairs has announced that the COVID vaccine, manufactured in India, will be distributed to Bhutan, Maldives, Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and the Seychelles from today. However, several countries, including Sri Lanka, are awaiting drug regulatory and clearance approvals from those countries. The Hiru News team inquired from the Director-General of Health Services Dr. Asela Gunawardena regarding this. He said the National Drug Regulatory Authority was preparing a report and would submit it to the Presidential Task Force for approval next Monday. He further stated that further steps will be taken to obtain the vaccine with the Government of India through the Presidential Task Force on Corruption.
