As beach work proceeds along Longboat Key s shoreline, residents and town leaders are preparing for another hurricane season, this time with more sand in many stretches than in 2020. The six-month season kicks off on June 1 with independent long-range forecasts predicting an above-average year for Atlantic basin storms and hurricanes. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration is expected to issue its first official season outlook this week.  Tips from the experts The  Longboat Observer asked people around the island what they do to prepare each year for hurricane season: Bill Coughlin, Longboat Harbour Condominium commodore: “I sent an email out reminding [residents] like, we mandate four dock lines, but we recommend six during hurricane season if you’re not here [to secure the boats]. I also remind them that you need to have a friend who will be looking after your boat. I mean, we do it, but that’s also part of their responsibility to have someone.”
