Wellington.scoop.co.nz » Horse injured and killed after feature race at Trentham

News from Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses Rock on Wood was killed in the events feature race, the Harcourts sponsored Thorndon Mile, at the Wellington Racing Club’s meeting at Trentham yesterday. He was six-years-old. His death occurred whilst the Coalition of the Protection of Racehorses (CPR) was protesting outside the course, warning attendees about this very thing and holding signs stating Harcourts Kills Horses. “We are devastated to learn of the death of Rock On Wood but by no means surprised” said CPR Wellington spokesperson Frances Baker. “Horses are often killed on the racetrack due to being pushed too hard for gambling profits.”

Wellington.scoop.co.nz » CPR criticises Harcourt's support for horse racing at Trentham

Media release from Coalition for the Protection of Racehorses Harcourts Real Estate’s support of the Wellington Cup demonstrates they are a major sponsor of animal cruelty and gambling problems, which flies in the face of the core values of their charitable arm – “people first, doing the right thing, and being courageous”. Harcourts Foundation have been supporting charities since 2008; they state that they change lives and make dreams come true, and we are certain that this is the case for many individuals and businesses, but that should never give a free pass to also support industries whose very foundations are based on abuse and suffering.
