PV - Bucknell University?s new solar array receives approval from the East Buffalo Township Board of Supervisors - Renewable Energy Magazine, at the heart of clean energy journalism

Friday, 16 April 2021 Bucknell University in Pennsylvania has partnered with Encore Renewable Energy of Burlington, Vermont, to install a 1.6 peak megawatt solar array on approximately seven acres of University-owned land. Encore will provide comprehensive project development, financing and construction services to advance the project, which received approval from the East Buffalo Township Board of Supervisors on Monday, April 12. The solar project will advance Bucknell’s strategic commitment to sustainability and enhance opportunities for renewable-energy focused teaching and research across multiple disciplines. In addition, the project will generate property tax revenues to East Buffalo Township, provide Bucknell with price certainty on energy rates for the next several decades, and strengthen the region’s commitment to the production and use of renewable energy.

The university will put 5,000 solar panels on seven acres of land near the West Athletic Fields and Bucknell Golf Club. It will supply about eight percent of the electricity that the university uses in total, said Jim Knight, Bucknell University director for energy and utilities. We re going to reduce 80 percent of our power generation from fossil fuel and move that into renewable energy, said Victor Udo, Bucknell University director of campus sustainability.
