With pandemic restrictions fading, many look forward to a return to ânormalâ and rewarding employment. According to news outlets, there are literally thousands of employers who are desperate to hire workers, offering hiring incentives and increased wages. Compounding the situation is the annual surge of job seekers from high schools and colleges. Sadly, the criminals who lure us into scams are aware of our desires and needs related to jobs. There has been a dramatic increase in job scams so if you are looking to return or join the workforce, be vigilant. According to the Better Business Bureau, about 14 million people experience job scams, losing more than $2 billion in a typical year.

The Vermont Attorney General has reached a first-in-the-nation settlement with a telecommunications company that will prevent it from routing international robocalls into the state.
Robocalls are the top complaint received at the Vermont Consumer Assistance Program. According to Attorney General T.J. Donovan, nearly 160,000 such calls hit Vermont every day and in March 2021 alone the state received about 5 million of the scam calls. Republican State Senator Randy Brock is a co-sponsor of a bill that would prohibit robocalls in the state.
“Robocalls are sort of like an electronic mosquito, Brock said. We constantly find them buzzing around our head and occasionally they bite and actually take blood. They are not just an annoyance but they are a danger. And they’re so ubiquitous. New AGO Robocall Team Formed to Assist with Ongoing Efforts to Stop Scams
Vermont Business Magazine Attorney General TJ Donovan today announced a settlement with a small Florida-based company that routed thousands of foreign scam robocalls to Vermonters. The Attorney General investigated the company Strategic IT Partner after reports of scam robocalls to the Vermont Consumer Assistance Program (CAP). The settlement will prevent Strategic IT Partner from bringing any robocalls into the US from abroad unless the company first verifies they are wholly legitimate. The Attorney General also today announced the formation of a Robocall Team to assist in the office’s ongoing efforts to combat scam calls in Vermont.
