Fireworks
While not taking place on the holiday itself, Utica s Independence Day Fireworks Celebration will be from 7 to 10 p.m. Monday, July 5, at F.T. Proctor Park at the corner of Rutger Street and Culver Avenue in East Utica. A shuttle from Mohawk Valley Community College’s Payne Hall will run from 6:30 p.m. until after the fireworks. A vaccination clinic for anyone age 12 and older will run from 5 to 8 p.m. at the site.

Local band Soul Injection will play at 7:30 p.m. at the celebration, but the band also will hold a roster of performances over the holiday weekend:

LONG ISLAND, N.Y. – With vaccination rates down by more than half, New York State is offering another incentive to get vaccinated with the new ‘Shot in the Park’ initiative.
On Monday, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced anyone who gets the first vaccine shot, or the single dose of Johnson & Johnson, from May 24 - 31 will get a free two-day pass to any state park.
It is Cold Case Tuesday and the New York State Police are continuing to investigate and remind people of a 48 year old unsolved crime, with the death of an Oneida Castle woman in 1973.
21-year old Martha Louise Allen was reported missing from her home on Ninth Street in Oneida Castle, NY on July 26, 1973.
Allen’s grandfather, whom she lived with then, reported her missing and told police at the time that he had last seen her the day before, on July 25 at approximately 8:30AM, when he left the home to go to the Syracuse area for the day.
Police say a few weeks later on August 17, 1973 a boater on Black Creek in the area of Verona Beach State Park found a partially decomposed body in the water that was later identified as Martha L. Allen.
