Saskatoon team chosen to design plans for new Weyburn General Hospital

By Moises Canales Apr 30, 2021 10:14 AM The next phase of development for the new Weyburn and District General Hospital will soon be underway. Saskatoon-based Group2 Architecture Interior Design Ltd. will be responsible for leading the design of the new facility which will serve Weyburn and the surrounding area. The 35-bed health care building will include primary health services, a 10-bed inpatient mental health unit and enhanced emergency services, including a heliport. Weyburn General Hospital replacement gets $1 4 million for planning

Asked about what is happening with the replacement of Weyburn General Hospital, Merriman said, “We’ve got seed money in this budget to be able to do to work on that. So we re working with Sask. Builds, and other arms of the government, and working with community consultation to be able to get that Weyburn hospital up and running as fast as we possibly can.  Asked for a timeframe, he responded, “We haven t got the timeframe nailed down right now. We re still in the process of working it out. There’s a large consultation process that we have to go through with any large build like this, but it is moving forward to where we re hoping to get it done as soon as possible.”

Sign unveiled for Weyburn s new hospital on site

The site was first unveiled in an announcement in early September, when Premier Scott Moe and then-Health Minister Jim Reiter were on hand along with MLA Duncan and several members of city council and the Hospital Foundation. Duncan said the Request for Proposals went out a couple of weeks ago for the major project, and they are due to be in to the government by this summer. The hospital is due to be constructed and open by 2023. The sign is located between Fifth Street and Hamilton Street on a 20-acre parcel purchased from the City of Weyburn, which is the new site for the new integrated 35-bed facility. The new facility will include a 10-bed inpatient mental health unit, and will also integrate the EMS ambulance service into its location.
