City of Bloomington to Add Four Major Public Artworks in 2021

The City of Bloomington’s commitment to the arts will produce four major public artworks in 2021 as the city recovers from the pandemic and its distressing effects on the economy and the arts. Projects at the Trades District, Switchyard Park, the Trades District Garage and the 4th Street Garage, funded through the One Percent for the Arts Ordinance mechanism, will be installed this year. An expanded search process and creative funding arrangements have resulted in a selection of works by a diverse range of artists.

The deal was finalized in late December with The Weber Group, the current owners of the building. (WKBT) Gundersen Health System has bought part of the CenturyLink regional headquarters in downtown La Crosse from The Weber Group in what Gundersen CEO Scott Rathgaber described as a dovetailing of their ideals. Rathgaber “Investments that provide opportunities for future local business expansion and benefit the community are core ideals for The Weber Group and Gundersen Health System,” Rathgaber said Tuesday of the health system’s purchase of three floors of the seven-story building in December. “Our approach and vision are very similar,” Rathgaber said in a prepared statement, adding: • “Leave this place better than we found it,” which is The Weber Group’s mantra.
