Cache County Attorney James Swink is stepping away from his elected position to pursue an opportunity with prosecutors in Weber County.
âIâve served 12 years as the Cache County Attorney, and itâs been wonderful,â Swink told The Herald Journal. âI donât think elected officials should serve their lifetimes in their office.â
An announcement of Swinkâs departure was made prior to a ribbon cutting for a new Cache Childrenâs Justice Center on Tuesday. Swink told The Herald Journal that Monday would be his last day at the Cache County Attorneyâs Office.

âJames, we are grateful for your leadership for the last 12 years as our county attorney,â said Cache CJC Director Terryl Warner during the event. âWe would not be here today if it hadnât been for you.â
SOUTH OGDEN A 56-year-old man has died following a shootout with police after he barricaded himself in a South Ogden home late Tuesday night, police confirmed Wednesday evening.
SWAT members from Ogden, Layton and Brigham City teams entered the residence at about 11:45 a.m. and found the suspect had died, according to Sgt. David Labbe of the South Ogden Police Department. The identity of the man and cause of death have not been released.
After determining the suspect was dead and the residence was secured, the shelter-in-place order for the Country View Drive neighborhood was lifted, Labbe said. Police added that 4500 South, which had been closed during the incident, had also been reopened.

When Douglas Lovell raped Joyce Yost, he set in motion a sequence of events that would forever deprive Yost’s children and grandchildren of the opportunity to share their lives with her.
“His decision that night in April of ’85 altered my life forever, and my family’s,” Yost’s daughter Kim Salazar said in an interview for KSL’s investigative podcast series “Cold.”
The show’s second season details the Joyce Yost case, beginning with Lovell’s sexual assault of Yost and his subsequent murder of her in August of 1985.
Salazar had three children at that point: 4-year-old Melisa, 3-year-old Melanie and 22-month-old Michael.
