View Comments A Ventura man died after what was described as an ultralight glider reportedly crashed near Santa Paula on Friday evening, according to Ventura County Fire Department reports. The crash was called in at 6:05 p.m. near the 6000 block of Wheeler Canyon Road. The road cuts from Foothill Road through rural hillside terrain west of Santa Paula. Firefighters and emergency medical personnel arriving at the scene reported finding one person dead. A Ventura County helicopter responding to the incident was called off after crews on the ground determined the incident was fatal. Ventura County Sheriff s deputies also responded. The ultralight craft had crashed in a remote area, said sheriff s Capt. Victor Medina, so no one on the ground was evacuated or impacted. Major crimes investigators were at the scene, he said, as is typical in certain unusual fatal incidents.
