SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - The Department of Health-operated clinic at the Sarasota Square Mall is conducting a first-dose coronavirus vaccine clinic by appointment only. More notices will start going out Wednesday afternoon and DOH Sarasota will be scheduling through account number 21,163. This number will not change until additional first-dose notices have gone out. VENICE, Fla. (WWSB) - Sarasota County health officials provided an update on Friday on what is ahead with COVID-19 vaccination shots. 8000 first doses of the vaccine will be administered next week and 3300 second doses.
“The past two weeks we will have received a greater allocation, which is really great for our community because it allows us to get more shots in the arms more quickly,” said Steve Huard, Spokesperson for the Sarasota County Department of Health.

SARASOTA, Fla. (WWSB) - Many second dose vaccinations administered on Thursday afternoon at Sarasota Square Mall. First dose vaccinations were given earlier in the day.
“I had my shot Jan. 15, it went great,” said Violet Morton, a Bradenton resident. “I had my second dose today, they contacted me Tuesday afternoon by telephone and they left me a message, my appointment time and here I am.”
People getting their COVID vaccine shots say the entire process was smooth for the first shot and the second one too.

Florida Department of Health Provides Week Nine Updates on Florida’s Vaccination Efforts Under Governor DeSantis’ Leadership
Florida Continues to Add COVID-19 Vaccination Sites Statewide through Strategic Partnerships~
Today, the Florida Department of Health issued an update on the progress of the state s vaccination efforts, as well as its weekly COVID-19 update. The State of Florida is in its ninth week of vaccine distribution and is continuing to increase vaccine access statewide.
Under Governor DeSantis’ leadership, the state continues to develop proactive strategies to increase vaccine access to Florida’s seniors.
This week, Governor DeSantis announced the expansion of COVID-19 vaccination sites across the state of Florida through the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. The Federal Retail Pharmacy Program sites began offering COVID-19 vaccines Friday, February 12 across 52 counties.
The three-day clinic in Venice had little notice.
The county began making appointments for Wednesday’s clinic early Tuesday evening, just hours after the director of emergency services Richard Collins notified county commissioners in an email about a plan to get vaccines to Venice by the end of the week.
At the time Collins sent the email, he said details were scant but he expected an event later in the week.
But then the county sent out a a press release late Tuesday announcing the pop-up vaccination clinic Wednesday and letting residents know that 1,000 appointments were being made for that event.
