Hopkinsville City Council to consider residential trash collection rate increase

Hopkinsville, KY, USA / WHOP 1230 AM | News Radio Jul 22, 2021 | 8:42 PM Residential Herby Curby trash collection service in Hopkinsville could be going up by $3.41 each month soon as the Hopkinsville City Council Committee of the Whole forwarded on an ordinance to that effect during its regular July meeting Thursday night. The residential rate hasn’t increased since 2006 and Hopkinsville Solid Waste General Manager Tony Sicari says costs have and continue to increase. He says he’s hopeful this increase will be the last they ask for over the next five to seven years. The Committee forwarded on the rate increase ordinance to city council on a unanimous vote.

Hopkinsville, KY, USA / WHOP 1230 AM | News Radio Jul 20, 2021 | 8:21 PM Hopkinsville City Council heard a fairly positive end of year financial report at Tuesday’s meeting, showing the city is on track to recover from pandemic impacts. Chief Financial Officer Robert Martin presented his report, saying the numbers show a good rebound in revenues during fiscal year 2020-2021 the city will end the fiscal year with $12.1 million in available cash balance in the general fund, a sizeable increase from the prior year.

Chief Financial Officer Robert Martin After several financial unknowns because of the COVID-19 pandemic and numerous budget amendments, City of Hopkinsville Chief Financial Officer Robert Martin said he was happy fiscal year 2020-2021 ended well. Martin made the comment when he presented his end of the fiscal year financial report to Hopkinsville City Council Tuesday night and said the city did end with a positive year. Martin said the city ended the fiscal year with an available cash balance of $12.1 million in available cash. He noted the payroll tax came in under budget but collections in the last two months of the fiscal year pushed the city over the prior year’s collections.
