YGAM claims four national awards for education programmes Share
The
Young Gamers & Gamblers Education Trust (YGAM) has been recognised for its national education campaigns on gambling-related harm with four awards.
Of particular significance was YGAM’s
Young People’s Gambling Harm Prevention
Programme, which provided training and resources to teachers and youth workers, delivered in collaboration with
GamCare and with support from the
Betting and Gaming Council (BGC).
The charity picked up the PSHE Education Award at the virtual Children & Young People Now Awards ceremony, hosted by
Alan Dedicoat.
This recognition focuses on honouring organisations that ‘provide outstanding resources to educators for PSHE education, delivering materials and lesson plans that align cohesively with current national curriculum requirements’.
A troop of La Jolla Girl Scouts is growing the reach and spreading the word of a new Feeding San Diego initiative as its Bronze Award project.
Troop 4978, composed of 10- and 11-year-old girls from La Jolla Elementary and La Jolla Country Day schools, is reaching out to local restaurants to encourage them to sign up for Feeding San Diego’s “Gift a Meal” program. Through the initiative, guests at participating restaurants have the option to add to their order a $15 meal for a person facing hunger.
Once a restaurant has at least five donated meals, it prepares the food, alerts Feeding San Diego via the MealConnect app, and Feeding San Diego sends a trained MealConnect volunteer driver or community partner to pick up the meals and get them to people in need.

To ensure the safety of Girl Scouts and cookie buyers alike, troops are following the county health guidelines established to help reduce COVID-19 transmissions. They are approaching the cookie program a bit differently this year, combining time-honored sales techniques with innovative approaches in a socially-distanced manner.
New this year is the E2B (Entrepreneur-to-Business) program that helps girls hone their presentation skills and work toward their cookie goals. Corporate, civic, and social groups may invite a Girl Scout to one of their virtual meetings to deliver a five-minute marketing pitch. The Del Mar and Del Mar-Solana Beach Rotary clubs have both hosted Girl Scouts.

The Institutional Advancement office brought home two awards for its Cornerstone Day 24-hour day of giving last fall – a Silver Award for “Fundraising Video, Short” (for the Cornerstone Day video) and a Bronze Award for “Special Event, Single Day.”
