Woburn Memorial High School students finish yearbook

Woburn Memorial High School’s yearbook staff along with advisers Michelle Getherall and Susan Thifault announced they have finished staff production of their 2021 yearbook.
Susan Happel, Herff Jones representative, announced that once again, Woburn is the first school in New England to go to press.
“In this most impossible of years, the staff and the vision of what goes in a yearbook and found stories, memories and moments of the year will make this yearbook a piece of Woburn history, Happel said.
In addition, the staff was asked to step into the world of agile software development as a team of testers and creators. Their longtime publisher Herff Jones Yearbooks is introducing a new multimillion dollar publishing platform, and the Woburn staff is the first teenage testing crew to touch and test this software. Woburn Memorial High School has received six grants totaling $345,000 to support the development of its Innovation Pathways and to purchase manufacturing and biotechnology equipment, announced Kim Gustenhoven, science curriculum coordinator grades 6-12.
During the spring of 2020, WMHS received the designation as an Innovation Pathway high school from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Education and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. Since that time, the school has received a series of competitive grants to support the development of its two pathways: advanced manufacturing and biotechnology.
The following grants were awarded:
• Cummings Foundation Grant, $100,000: WMHS is one of 130 local nonprofits to receive a grant through the Cummings Foundation’s $20 Million Grant Program. The program is a competitive, place-based initiative. The Cummings Foundation aims to give back in the area

Woburn Memorial High School seniors named Commended Students

Woburn Memorial High School students Sameera Jangala and Kathryn Juliuson have been named Commended Students in the 2021 National Merit Scholarship Program.
A letter of commendation from the school and National Merit Scholarship Committee, which conducts the program, was presented by Principal Jessica Callanan to these seniors.
About 34,000 Commended Students throughout the nation were recognized for their academic promise. Although they will not continue in the 2021 competition for National Merit Scholarship awards, Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 scorers of more than 1.5 million students who entered the 2021 competition by taking the 2019 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Qualifying Test.
