Councillor Mohammed Rafique, Leeds City Council’s executive member for environment and active lifestyles, said: “Many of the challenges that we have faced as individuals and a city over the past year due to coronavirus have been truly unprecedented. We remain very proud that our parks and greenspaces have been somewhere that have provided a real boost to the health and wellbeing of so many people.
“With that in mind, and having assessed all the coronavirus guidance very closely, we are really pleased that following positive discussions with parkrun UK organisers, events will once again be able to take place in council managed parks and green spaces across the city.
College Student’s Genius ‘Eyesore’ Bin-Bag Dispenser Helps Keep Parks Litter-Free
A young college student’s belief in people’s innate kindness has led to cleaner parks near Woodhouse Moor, in West Yorkshire, England.
When the Leeds Beckett University student, Jack Colmer, 22, saw public images of the amount of litter at parks across the country, he knew something had to be done. In particular, Colmer was disheartened by the piles of rubbish at nearby Hyde Park.
Talking to The Epoch Times, Colmer said his fellow humans’ good nature convinced him that people usually want to do what’s right, which inspired him to create his very own litter solution: an “eyesore” wooden bin-bag dispenser.
