On April 11, 2021, Jeremy Robert Smit, loving husband and father of three children, passed away unexpectedly at the age of 42.
Jeremy was born on April 30, 1978 in Fort Collins, Colorado, to Kevin Smit and Shirley Riewerts. He spent the earliest part of his childhood in Loveland, Colorado and moved with his family to Biddeford, Maine, when he was 8 years old. There, he attended Biddeford High where he met several of his lifelong friends and his loving wife and best friend, April.
Jeremy had a passion for photography that was instilled in him by his family. He carried on that legacy for many years. His talents recently culminated in one of his photographs titled, “Joshua Needles,” being displayed and featured at the Boothbay Region Art Foundation’s 2021 Maine Photography Show and Exhibition Catalog.

ALBEMARLE COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - A portion of Dick Woods Road in Albemarle County was shut off to traffic for several hours Tuesday, April 20, due to a leak from a propane truck.
Units from Albemarle County Fire Rescue, as well as county police responded to a call for a propane truck leak at approximately 9 a.m. Tuesday.
The road was closed in both directions between Bloomfield and Ivy Depot until shortly before 2 p.m.
An investigation is underway after a vacant home in Cedar Falls caught fire Tuesday night, according to the Waterloo Cedar Falls Courier. A neighbor reported the fire at 3310 Big Woods Road after they noticed flames and smoke coming from the home. Fire Chief John Bostwick said nobody lived at the home and that there was no evidence a break in had occurred. Fire crews put out the fire within 10 minutes. Damage was done to the garage and the inside of the house. Nobody was injured in the blaze.
A small business that makes granola bars has moved from Green Bay to Milwaukee s Riverwest neighborhood.
OLV LLC, doing business as Olympia Granola, is leasing 3,900 square feet at 3950 N. Holton St., according to city Department of Neighborhood Services records.
A.J. Girard bought the business, which was in Green Bay, and recently relocated it to Milwaukee, where he lives.
Olympia makes granola bars that are sold mainly to backpackers and other outdoors enthusiasts, said Girard.
The business was launched in 2003 in the Olympic Mountain region of Washington and moved to Green Bay in 2010.
Girard, who grew up in the Fox Valley, has worked for other food companies and bought Olympia from a family friend in 2019.
