Visalia CHP officer shot, airlifted to hospital after Tulare County chase
A shooting rampage that began in Sequoia National Park early Friday and ended in a Tulare County orchard has sent two people a veteran California Highway Patrol officer and the suspect to the hospital.
The incident that went on to involve half a dozen law enforcement agencies and numerous officers started Friday morning when Sequoia park staff were alerted that a man brandished a knife at a family following an argument near Big Trees Trail in the Giant Forest.
The family fled after the argument escalated and the man pulled a pistol, Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux told reporters Friday afternoon. He also slashed tourists tires, sparking a temporary park closure as rangers worked to investigate the incident, a Sequoia representative said.
