Woodmill Lane in Southampton to close for repair work

Selfish and unacceptable : City park plagued by antisocial youth riding motorbikes and dropping litter

ANTISOCIAL youths ragging motorbikes over a Southampton park and leaving trails of litter have been branded selfish . For many, visiting Bitterne Park s Riverside Park has been a nice treat for families and groups of friends looking to enjoy the city s outside green spaces. However, the actions of a few have ruined it for most with distractingly loud music, piles of litter, and antisocial motorbike use. Hampshire Constabulary and members of Southampton City Council have confirmed numerous reports of poor behaviour and littering at the park this summer. Police have told the Daily Echo of a number of incidents at the park dating back to May.

An outline application has already been approved by Fareham Borough Council. Now Taylor Wimpey has submitted a more detailed proposal, which will also have to be given the green light before work can start.

Woodmill Lane in Southampton set to reopen from June 7

Woodmill Lane is expected to reopen on Monday ending almost a month of travel disruption. Work has been underway this week to repair the former mill building on Woodmill Bridge. A Nissan Micra ploughed into the side of the historic building during a crash early in May. The incident left a gaping hole with engineers called in to assess the structural damage. The route has been blocked off in both directions as work has been done to remove debris and then patch up the building. According to the council, if this repair work proceeds without issues, Woodmill Lane is expected to reopen on Monday, June 7.
