Wiwi Jury: Azerbaijan s Efendi with Mata Hari

The Wiwi Jury our in-house team of music unprofessionals is reviewing and rating the 39 competing songs in Eurovision 2021. Next we turn to Azerbaijan where Efendi has Efendi – “Mata Hari” “Mata Hari” reviews Deban: Azerbaijan does not play! And neither does Efendi who isn’t here to experiment with musical styles. “Mata Hari” sounds like a hidden track on the “Cleopatra” EP. The emerging Azeri star knows what her fans demand, and she is serving it! Fusing Oriental sounds, and lyrics referencing the title of her previous entry, Efendi cleverly makes new garments out of old fabric. Expected, but ingenious at the same time, “Mata Hari” gets straight to the point. It doesn’t come with any singer-songwriter stripes, or a meaningful message, it is simply crafted for a top spot in the Eurovision Grand Final.

Wiwi Jury: Norway s TIX with Fallen Angel

The Wiwi Jury our in-house team of music unprofessionals is reviewing and rating the 39 competing songs in Eurovision 2021. Next up, we listen to Norway’s TIX and his song TIX – “Fallen Angel” “Fallen Angel” reviews Kristín: Norway trolled us all this year, didn’t they? And thus are giving us the most beautiful ballad of 2021. “Fallen Angel” and TIX might seem like a novelty act at first but underneath there are raw emotions and a haunting melody, delivered by a strong singer. Many have expressed that the song should have been kept in Norwegian. And yes, the original version was just as brilliant, but TIX gives more power in the English version and completely captures the audience. The thing about TIX is that he immediately makes you care about him and his song. You simply want to embrace him. “Fallen Angel” could very well turn out to be one of those dark horses that quietly sneaks into the top ten something of a trademark for Norway in recent ye

Wiwi Jury: Belgium s Hooverphonic with The Wrong Place

The Wiwi Jury ranks and reviews the 39 acts competing in the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. Next we listen to Belgium’s Hooverphonic and their song “The Wrong Place”. Did this song make us feel like we were in the right place? Read on to find out! Hooverphonic – “The Wrong Place” “The Wrong Place” reviews Jonathan: While “The Wrong Place” is still a ballad with very linear melodic progression, there’s much more intrigue and mystery surrounding the song. This creates an aura that grips listeners as they follow along with Geike’s storytelling. Overall, “The Wrong Place” is moody, sombre and downbeat, which is what makes it absolutely right.

Wiwi Jury: Sweden s Tusse with Voices

The Wiwi Jury our in-house team of music unprofessionals is reviewing and rating the 39 competing songs in Eurovision 2021. Next we look at Sweden’s Melodifestivalen 2021 winner Tusse and his song Tusse – “Voices” “Voices” reviews Ron: “Voices” and Tusse are a package deal which you can’t separate, that’s its strength. While the lyrics of this song are a bit cliché and a bit strange in some parts, Tusse is selling this song so well in his performance that at the end of the performance you don’t even remember the few things that bothered you in the song. Tusse is not simply singing this song, he is shouting it out and in a very touching and convincing way that makes you feel connected to Tusse and to the song. He really feels this song in every note and every word and you can tell Tusse has a really deep connection to it. The great vocals, the impressive staging, the anthemic and slick production and the powerful message of unity, hope, perseverance

Wiwi Jury: Latvia s Samanta Tina with The Moon Is Rising

It’s that time again! The Wiwi Jury our in-house panel of music unprofessionals has listened to all 39 acts competing in Eurovision 2021. Over the coming weeks, we’ll reveal our reviews and rankings of the songs. First up, we take a listen to Latvia’s Samanta Tīna and her song “The Moon is Rising”. It took Samanta six attempts before she made it to Eurovision. But do we want to join in with her parade? Read on to find out! Samanta Tīna – “The Moon Is Rising” “The Moon Is Rising” reviews Calvin: It’s hard to put any song of Samanta Tīna into a category, as all of them are completely unpredictable. “The Moon is Rising” goes from left to right, then back up and down with several inversions on the way. Yet, everything fits together and makes sense somehow. I can’t think of many artists, who start a song almost a capella, then introduce a Diplo-like “Bitch I’m Madonna” drill-beat only to climax in a K-pop chorus. The feeling of empowermen
