Wiwi Jury: North Macedonia s Vasil with Here I Stand

The Wiwi Jury our in-house team of music unprofessionals is reviewing and rating the 39 competing songs in Eurovision 2021. Next we take a journey to North Macedonia where Vasil has Vasil – “Here I Stand” “Here I Stand” reviews Jonathan: There’s a balance between showcasing vocal talent and retaining an emotional connection with the listener. While a song may be crafted for a live performance that delivers the WOW vocal moment, you run the risk of the polished production removing some of the underlying raw emotion. Vasil clearly connects with “Here I Stand” himself and it’s touching to see. However, despite being a fan of theatrical ballads at the best of times, the studio cut of “Here I Stand” currently leaves me feeling indifferent – hence the bang average score.

Wiwi Jury: Portugal s The Black Mamba with Love Is on My Side

The Wiwi Jury our in-house team of music unprofessionals is reviewing and rating the 39 competing songs in Eurovision 2021. Next we take a look at Portugal where The Black Mamba has The Black Mamba – “Love Is on My Side” “Love Is on My Side” reviews Jonathan: There’s something really comforting about “Love Is on My Side”. When it comes on, I just let it play in the background and this warm feeling washes over me as The Black Mamba help remind me that there’s more love than darkness in my life. That being said, I don’t see it being a massive standout at Eurovision. There are still 29 entries from this year that I would actively choose to hit play on (and crucially vote for) before “Love Is on My Side”. But when it does come on in the semi-final, I will enjoy the three minutes.

Wiwi Jury: Greece s Stefania with Last Dance

The Wiwi Jury our in-house team of music unprofessionals is reviewing and rating the 39 competing songs in Eurovision 2021. Next we head to Greece where Stefania has Stefania – “Last Dance” “Last Dance” reviews Deban: “Last Dance” is a disco bop freshened with a 2021 arrangement. As far as songs go, this is an excellent offering. It straddles the decades without sounding overworked. Visually, this is Greek; musically, it is global. Fittingly, Stefania holds a presence in Eurovision’s host country. She’s Dutch with Greek roots. Her youthful looks and nimble moves are key assets. Vocally, she can do pop. As a total package, “Last Dance” courts enough traction from televoters, club kids and music experts. Qualification predictions are somewhat pointless. Miss Liberakakis will be flying her pegasus all the way to a top ten finish at the grand final.

Denmark s Fyr & Flamme with Øve os på hinanden

The Wiwi Jury our in-house team of music unprofessionals is reviewing and rating the 39 competing songs in Eurovision 2021. Next we turn to Denmark where Fyr & Flamme have “Øve os på hinanden”. Did the song get us all fired up? Read on to find out! Fyr & Flamme – “Øve os på hinanden” “Øve os på hinanden” reviews Kristin: To have Denmark think so much outside the box is delightfully surprising, considering that they have been known for choosing so middle-of-the-road songs that they almost have a visible dotted line.  And this particular bulletproof Danish ’80s-inspired pop is everything good in this world, and then some more. This is different, it’s fresh and it’s a boatload of fun! And the joyfully ambiguous lyrics are the sweet sweet icing on this
