WHEELING – From a distance, motorists traveling up Market Street in downtown Wheeling Tuesday initially may have wondered why large plumes of steam were rising from the street.
Upon closer inspection, crews were working on a utility project, one a bit different than the typical utility line installation.
This week, crews with regional contractor Granite Inliner began using a high-temperature steam-sealing process to install new sanitary sewer line “sleeves” inside the old sanitary sewer lines beneath Market Street. The project is part of overall utility upgrades ahead of the city’s streetscape project, according to City of Wheeling Public Works Director Russell Jebbia.
