The Massachusetts House overwhelmingly approved a $600 million bond bill Tuesday, pushing the effort to build a new Soldiers’ Home in Holyoke one step forward.
All 160 members present voted to support the bill. It now will go to the Senate for a vote on Thursday. If it passes, it will head to Gov. Charlie Baker for final approval.
The House and Senate on Monday adopted compromise legislation that provides for a new $400 million Soldiers’ Home, as well as $200 million for additional veterans services across the state.

HOLSTEIN, Iowa (AP) Like many of us exiled in quarantine during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic last year, Kiara Dutler found herself going a little stir crazy.
Unable to go to school, see her friends or participate in sports, staying at home while attending virtual classes at Ridge View High School got old pretty fast.
So when she saw an Iowa State University Extension and Outreach email last April seeking volunteers to sew and donate face masks for protection against the virus, Dutler figured it would break up the monotony.
