Veterans Memorial H.S. swimmers team with Colin s Hope to raise awareness about water safety A local non-profit organization is taking part in help;ing teach kids about water safety. and last updated 2021-05-25 22:52:23-04 CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The non-profit Colin s Hope was designed to raise awareness and educate the community about the dangers of drowning in any type of water. Back in June of 2008 four-year-old Colin Holst drowned in a lifeguarded pool in Austin and after his drowning, his parents who are from Corpus Christi learned how drownings are the number one cause of accidental deaths for children under the age of five years old.

Top 10 Corpus Christi ISD seniors honored as Academic Achievers

View Comments Corpus Christi ISD held its 13th annual Academic Achievers Ceremony Thursday evening at Selena Auditorium to honor the top 10 seniors from eight high schools. The high schools involved were Harold T. Branch Academy, Mary Carroll High School, Collegiate High School, Richard King High School, Roy Miller High School, Foy H. Moody High School, W.B. Ray High School and Veterans Memorial High School. The event, themed Unmasked,  recognized 80 students joined by two guests and their favorite teacher. Superintendent Roland Hernandez said the theme was chosen to acknowledge how each student triumphed while facing adversity. Students, you have shown just how dedicated you are to your education and to conquering the goals you set, Hernandez said.  I know making it to the top 10, and then staying there was no easy feat. Especially with the added roadblocks of a pandemic and a historic freeze.

Texas comedian William Lee Martin making a stop in Aransas Pass Does it get any better than cowboy hats and comedy? Texas comedian William Lee Martin has announced his nationwide stand-up tour is making a stop in the Coastal Bend. The All-American Mutt Tour is slated to stop at the Rialto Theater in Aransas Pass on June 5.  Martin, formerly know as Cowboy Bill, has been in comedy for 25 years and has two comedy specials streaming on Amazon Prime.  During the pandemic, Martin has gained over half a million followers on Facebook by sharing positive messages during his live “4pm Daily Talk Y’all” show.

FBISD announces its two winners for Teacher of the Year

View Comments Flour Bluff ISD announced the winners of the district s elementary and secondary Teacher of the Year awards Thursday. Fifth-grade teacher Jeana Banta from Flour Bluff Intermediate and math teacher Mary Keyes from Flour Bluff High School were surprised by FBISD administrators and members of the Teacher of the Year Selection Committee when they came to their classrooms to inform them they were selected. Keyes has been in education for 35 years and started out as a paraprofessional. She has been a teacher for 25 years. “I care about my students and do my best to bring out their best, Keyes said.
