KASHMIR LIFE (KL):Â
Recently, the Government of India reached out to Jammu and Kashmirâs politicians including you for the first time since August 5. Was the all-party meeting fruitful?
MEHBOOBA MUFTI (MM): This is a question that only the Government of India can answer. There are various confidence-building measures, which can be initiated to provide some kind of relief to the people of Jammu and Kashmir. The process can begin by releasing political prisoners along with lifting the siege that has been imposed since 2019. The suffocating atmosphere of suppression and repression needs to be ended. It is now up to the Government of India to walk the talk.

Srinagar, July 26
A special court has framed terror charges against Waheed-ur-Rehman Parra, a senior PDP leader and close aide of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, based on a police charge sheet claiming that he was an asset for Pakistan-based terror groups and that his 13-year journey as a journalist and politician from 2007 was a “saga of subterfuge, deceit and double-dealing”.
The court had heard arguments on the framing of charges from the defence and the prosecution earlier this month and it allowed framing of charges against Parra, who is alleged to have established a nexus with terrorists.
