Stratford social services has been forced to put a planned alternative-housing pilot project that would have seen the construction of eight modular supportive housing units at 398 Erie St. on hold after being denied funding through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s Rapid Housing Initiative.
Discussing the matter at Tuesday’s social services subcommittee, director of social services Kim McElroy noted the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation received 679 applications that exceeded $4 billion in funding requests through the initial $500-million intake of the program. In its application, the city applied for roughly $2.4 million toward the $3-million construction cost of the modular housing units.
