Council and Mayor seeking public comments on the densification of residential zones – Sheridan Media

The Sheridan City Council and the Mayor are reaching out to residents seeking public input on the densification of the city’s residential zones.  With the real estate and construction market in Sheridan experiencing a boom, prices are high and inventory low. Although this has many positive effects on the community at large, it has made it very difficult for working families to rent, let alone buy a home in Sheridan. And that cuts down the possibility of growing a workforce to attract  potential businesses.  According to councilman Clint Beaver, the tough housing situation in Sheridan is nothing new. Council and the Mayor have been addressing the issue in meetings and openly to the media for years. The problem; finding lasting solutions.

Sioux Falls nonprofit seeks volunteers in fight against homelessness

By Anson Mareus Apr 12, 2021 9:00 PM SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) It’s staggering. Over 1100 school-age children in Sioux Falls experience homelessness during the school year. Sioux Falls Thrive’s Housing Action Team, or HAT, is charged with cutting that number in half. Since its inception, HAT has promoted a series of innovations that have expanded housing opportunities and improved access to housing information. Members of the 15-person team represent all sectors of the community and include volunteer leaders, property owners, and representatives from government, nonprofit, and faith-based entities. One-third of the team turns over every two years, said Candy Hanson, Thrive’s Community Collaboration Director.

Evictions in Sioux Falls have skyrocketed since 2008 and are expected to climb to crisis proportions when the CDC’s eviction moratorium ends in January. “Imagine how hard it would be to lose your home,” Candy Hanson, Sioux Falls Thrive, asks. “Now imagine how hard that would be if you were kid without any way to right a world that has suddenly flipped upside down.”
