WASHINGTON – A House member is suing former President Donald Trump, his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani and a fellow House member for their roles in the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, but the toughest hurdle has proved to be just serving Rep. Mo Brooks with the lawsuit.
The lawyer for Rep. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., tried contacting Brooks’ office and received no reply. The lawyer couldn’t visit the office in person because of security restrictions since the riot. Swalwell even hired a private detective to track down Brooks, with no luck.
“Plaintiff’s investigator has spent many hours over may days in April and May at locations in multiple jurisdictions attempting to locate and serve Brooks, to no avail,” according to a court filing.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Val Demings, the African American congresswoman from Orlando, says she’s still in the process of making a decision to run for Governor of Florida in 2022. If she moves forward, the three-term representative would face off against Republican Governor Ron DeSantis.
The former Orlando police chief says she has a few options in the upcoming political arena.
“Many have asked me to run for governor. Many have asked me to run for the Senate. I’m still in the process of making the decision. I know I need to make this decision, but I’m going to make it with all of the information that I need so I can better serve the people of Florida,” Demings said.

Closing arguments in President Donald Trump’s impeachment trial are unfolding Monday more for history than to sway votes. The four hours of arguments provide one final chance to influence public opinion and set the record ahead of his expected acquittal in the GOP-led Senate. The chamber is expected to take the final impeachment votes on Wednesday. House managers opened with a plea from Democratic Rep. Jason Crow of Colorado who said: “We cannot and should not leave our common sense at the door.” Trump’s defense countered that the “fast-track” impeachment case against the president was flawed, rushed and nothing short of an effort to undo the 2016 election and shape the next one.
