Published February 4, 2021, 6:01 PM The House Special Committee on Senior Citizens approved on Thursday, February 4, a bill proposing to grant free hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and other approved dialysis procedures to all senior citizens. Under House Bill No. 7859, the cost of the dialysis services shall be reimbursed by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation (PhilHealth), “provided that such treatment is availed of [in] PhilHealth-accredited hospitals and freestanding dialysis centers.” It also states that only procedures that use dialysis solutions listed in the Philippine Drug Formulary, as well as laboratory procedures and supplies deemed “necessary”, shall be reimbursed. The PhilHealth shall “as soon as possible” reimburse all receipts dated 30 days prior to the claimed session.

Rodolfo Ordanes, the cost of hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis and other Department of Health-approved dialysis procedures conducted at freestanding dialysis centers and accredited hospitals will be reimbursed by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or PhilHealth. In seeking the bill s approval, Ordanes said chronic kidney disease has become one of the causes of death among senior citizens, with demand for dialysis increasing by 400% in the past 10 years.
