Troy Fears named new Executive Director of CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center

By Local News | MyWabashValley.com Jul 26, 2021 | 3:56 PM TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) – The CANDLES Holocaust Museum and Education Center has announced Troy Fears as its new Executive Director. He began the role Monday. Fears is a life-long resident of Terre Haute and has served as a public school administrator and non-profit director. He previously served as the Executive Director of the United Way of the Wabash Valley. He also served as the Dean of Students at Booker T. Washington High School, the Vigo Virtual Success Academy and McLean High School. CANDLES says in a news release that Fears will build upon the museum’s relationship with the community while expanding the reach of the organization. Fears will also help launch a new capital campaign focused upon a potential move to a new location in Terre Haute, one that CANDLES says will further promote founder Eva Kor’s mission and vision.

Propose Statewide Online School To stem the loss of students looking for flexible or online learning options, the Vigo County School Corp. in Indiana wants to start a commercial, statewide program that could begin at the elementary level next year. May 11, 2021 •  (TNS) The Vigo County School Corp. is proposing a commercial, statewide online school that would increase enrollment and provide additional revenue for the school district. It was one of three concepts presented by Bill Riley, VCSC director of communications, during Monday s School Board work session. The district is suggesting three potential programs to be added to the strategic plan. The commercial, statewide online school is one. The two others involve a flex school that could be located at the third elementary school to be closed, and the third involves a new fabrication, innovation, technology and engineering [FITE] center.
