Ludhiana: The district recorded the highest ever single-day Covid case surge on Wednesday, when 879 residents tested positive. The second highest count (835) was logged on April 17.
As per the health department bulletin, seven residents of the district and a patient each of Hoshiarpur, Amritsar and Maharashtra succumbed to the virus.
The district casualties included a 65-year-old diabetic man of Kochar Market, an 84-year-old woman of Sarabha Nagar with diabetes and hypertension, a 46-year-old diabetic patient of Sahnewal, a 56-year-old diabetic man of Janta Nagar, a 57-year-old man of Giaspura, a 43-year-old diabetic woman of Vishwakarma Nagar, and a 45-year-old woman of Guru Nanak Nagar with diabetes and hypertension.

Ludhiana recorded the highest single-day spike of 879 Covid-19 cases on Wednesday. The virus also claimed the lives of seven more persons of the Ludhiana district during the past 24 hours.
In the containment zones of Phases 1 and 2 of Urban Estate, Dugri, 70 more cases were reported today. As many as 1,890 samples were collected from these areas. About 150 cases were reported earlier from these areas.
The Health Department today confirmed 974 fresh cases 879 from Ludhiana and 95 from other districts or states. In Ludhiana, 93 patients came in contact with positive patients, 162 visited OPDs, and 408 visited Flu Corner. Ten healthcare workers, undertrial, cop and two persons with a severe acute respiratory infection have tested positive for the virus. Besides, 199 patients are yet to be traced.

A man suspecting his wife’s character in Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal city allegedly chopped off his wife s left hand and left foot with a sharp-edged weapon, police said on Wednesday.
Rajput allegedly chopped his wife s left hand from the wrist and also hacked her left foot, the official said.
The incident took place on Tuesday night, when the accused Preetam Rajput (28) returned to his home in Vishwakarma Nagar in an inebriated state and allegedly attacked his wife Sangeeta (26) who was sleeping with their son, city superintendent of police (CSP) Anil Tripathi said.
