FEDERAL WAY, WA Macy s has announced that they will be closing 36 stores by the end of the first quarter, including the Commons at Federal Way.
The closure is part of a broader move by Macy s to close 125 locations over a three-year period, according to USA Today. The move represents about a fifth of Macy s remaining stores. Already Macy s closed 30 stores last year as part of the three-year plan.
As USA Today reports, this week Macy s named several dozen stores which will be closing by April 30. That list includes the Federal Way store. The only other store closing in Washington is in Northtown near Spokane.

AUSTIN, TX Officials at the department store chain Macy s on Wednesday announced a new round of store closures including five stores slated to be shuttered in Texas.
Macy s, Inc. which also runs Bloomingdale s and Bluemercury, identified 36 namesake stores and one Bloomingdale s expected to shutter by or before midyear, as USA Today reported. The company also listed nine stores that recently closed, the newspaper reported.
Among the 30 additional stores slated for closure by the end of Macy s first quarter, which ends April 30, are five in Texas:

With sales down due to the coronavirus pandemic and decreased foot-traffic at shopping malls, Macy’s is shuttering some of its storefronts.
Macy’s informed employees at 45 locations, including five within Texas malls, that their stores would close in 2021, CNBC reports.
