Bitterroot National Forest lookouts and fire patrols are looking for any holdover fires that might have been started by a fairly active thunderstorm Sunday on the first day of August. Mark Wilson of the forest said the small Laird Creek fire and the Whiskey Gulch fire, both in the Darby/Sula Ranger District, were out and being mopped up Tuesday. The other fire that Bitterroot fire officials are watching is the 19,300 acre Storm Creek Fire in the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. It grew over 4,000 acres over the weekend and is now about a mile from the Montana-Idaho border, 14 miles west of Victor.

Seaview producing gas

Hilcorp has a new field in production.
June oil and gas production data, released in late July by the Alaska Oil and Gas Conservation Commission, show the companys Seaview gas field on the southern Kenai Peninsula came online in June, with production totaling 21,352 thousand cubic feet over the 30 days of the month, an average of 712 mcf per day.
Seaview is the first new field Hilcorp has brought online since it began operating in Alaska some 10 years ago, acquiring assets in Cook Inlet from Union Oil Company of California and, later, from Marathon. The companys forte is acquisition of mature fields and development of remaining reserves, but it has been exploring in Cook Inlet, looking at prospects offshore and on the west side, as well as on the Kenai Peninsula. It plans to begin exploratory drilling at Whiskey Gulch, north of Seaview, this summer.
