UW System statement on state budget

MADISON, Wis. University of Wisconsin System President Tommy Thompson and Regent President Edmund Manydeeds III issued this statement today:
“The University of Wisconsin is the state’s greatest asset next to its people. We thank Gov. Evers and the legislature for their leadership in providing significant investments in the university’s mission, especially critical improvements in our infrastructure and support for our employees.”
The University of Wisconsin System serves approximately 165,000 students. Awarding nearly 37,000 degrees annually, the UW System is Wisconsin’s talent pipeline, putting graduates in position to increase their earning power, contribute to their communities, and make Wisconsin a better place to live. MADISON, Wis. â University of Wisconsin System President Tommy Thompson announced today that 267 UW System students will share $1 million in scholarships under the new Wisconsin Regents Opportunity Scholarship program.
The program provides scholarships to underrepresented and deserving students in one of three phases of their higher education pursuit: prior to enrollment, while continuing studies, and near completion. Students are nominated by their universities and receive the scholarships from UW System.
âThis new scholarship program will become a UW System cornerstone as we redirect resources to benefit students,â Thompson said. âIt will help us diversify our student body by recruiting more students, ensuring they continue their studies, and providing financial help for the final push toward graduation.â
MADISON, Wis. â University of Wisconsin System President Tommy Thompson announced today that he has named Jeff Buhrandt as interim vice president for University Relations, replacing Scott Neitzel, who is resigning his position after helping guide UW System during the coronavirus pandemic.
âScottâs budget and management experience was key to helping me navigate the many challenges presented by the pandemic this past year,â Thompson said. âHis senior leadership enabled us to do many things we would never have been able to do without him accepting this role. He has my sincerest thanks and appreciation.â
Neitzel, whose last day will be July 18, was instrumental in helping craft UW Systemâs community and student testing program and the Systemâs legislative budget approval.
