Within hours of assuming office, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday initiated a major reshuffle in the police hierarchy, transferring 29 top-level police officers, mostly those who were shifted by the Election Commission prior to the polls.
Among the top-level officers who have been brought back to their former positions are DG Virendra, ADG (Law and Order) Jawed Shamim and DG Security Vivek Sahay, an order issued this evening said.
KOLKATA: The Election Commission removed an officer on special duty (OSD) on Friday from West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee’s security detail. Asoke Chakraborty held the rank of a police superintendent in the Directorate of Security.
It is believed that Chakraborty’s removal is the result of the ongoing probe into security lapses that led to CM Banerjee a Z-plus protectee being injured in Nandigram on March 10.
The officer had served as the CM’s PSO for 10 years and 11 months. He always accompanied her when she stepped out of Kolkata. He was a PSO to Banerjee even when she was Union railway minister.

Kolkata: The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Friday removed an SP rank officer posted in the security of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, an official said.
The step against Asoke Chakraborty, an officer on special duty (OSD) in an ex-cadre post in the rank of superintendent of police, is believed to have been taken because of “security lapses” which led to Banerjee’s foot injury in Nandigram last month, he said.
“He is removed from the post with immediate effect,” the official in the state CEO’s office said.

An official said that the Election Commission (ECI) on Friday removed a senior police officer posted under the protection of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
An ex-cadre ex-cadre officer on the post of Superintendent of Police, Assoc Chakraborty, is believed to have stepped in due to a “security lapse” which resulted in Ms. Banerjee’s leg injury in Nandigram . Month, he said.

Ms. Banerjee was hurt after falling during the election campaign in her constituency Nandigram on 10 March. Since then, she has been seeking votes for her party in a wheelchair.
