Govt-farmers to hold ninth round of talks on Friday; Tomar hopeful of positive discussion
The ninth round of negotiations between the government and protesting farmers will take place on Friday. Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar expressed hope that the discussions would be positive. The government is ready to hold talks with farmers leaders with an open mind, Tomar said amid confusion over the fate of the next round of talks, in the wake of the Supreme Court appointing a four-member panel to resolve the impasse.Â
Tomar said the talks between the government and the union representatives will take place as scheduled for 12 pm on January 15. Even as the farmers refused to appear before the court-appointed panel citing its composition, the unions have expressed willingness to attend the scheduled talks with the government.
Dushyant Chautala meets Narendra Modi
As per reports, Haryana deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday, a day after he met Home minister Amit Shah with Manohar Lal Khattar. After an hour-long meeting with Shah, both Khattar and Chautala said they have discussed about the prevailing law and order situation in the state. Hours after the Supreme Court of India criticised the Centre for the way the farmers agitation was handled, the protesting farmers said in a statement that it won't appear before a panel set up by the top court and only wanted a repeal of the three contentious farm laws.
The Supreme Court has asked Attorney General, K K Venugopal to get instructions from the government on its willingness to stay the implementation of the farm laws on their own. The court also observed that it would protect the farmers lands.

Attorney General (AG) KK Venugopal on Tuesday told the Supreme Court that the Khalistan supporters have infiltrated the farmers protest against the three farm laws.
A bench headed by Chief Justice SAÂ Bobde and comprising Justices ASÂ Bopanna and V Ramasubramanian told the AG that if there is infiltration by a banned organisation, then the government has to confirm it and asked him to file an affidavit by Wednesday. AG replied, Yes, I will file an affidavit and the IB reports.
