Amazon reported recently that online grocery sales tripled during the pandemic. The company also saw a 160 percent increase in delivery capacity and tripled the number of Whole Foods pickup spots.
This is all great news if you live in a city with Whole Foods or where grocery delivery services are easily accessible. But if your food and home supplies depend on local pickup and delivery, and you live in rural strongholds, you might be in for some shortages. E-commerce is not every rural community s Holy Grail for shopping.
Many local rural retailers are strangers to e-commerce. If stores in rural America want to keep customers happy and healthy, transitioning to e-commerce is key, according to Mark William Lewis, CTO of Netalico Commerce.

Uprising Food, a 2-year-old startup that makes low-carb breads and crisps, has raised $1.25 million in Series A funding.
The company claims its products are higher in fiber and more nutritious than other competitors.
The round was led by Trousdale Ventures and former Dentsu US and Americas CEO Nick Brien. Food entrepreneurs including Pressed Juicery s Hayden Slater, Health-Ade s Daina Trout, and Sugarfina s Rosie O Neill and Josh Resnick also participated.
Uprising, a Detroit, Michigan-based superfood bakery offering keto-friendly and fiber-rich foods via subscription delivery service, closed a $1.25m funding round.
The round was led by Trousdale Ventures and former US & Americas CEO for Dentsu Aegis, Nick Brien, along with financial support from food and beverage entrepreneurs including Hayden Slater from Pressed Juicery, Daina Trout from Health-Ade, and Rosie O’Neill and Josh Resnick from Sugarfina.
Founded in March 2019 by former P&G executive William Schumacher alongside his sister Kate Schumacher and Blue Oven Bakery founders, Mark and Sara Frommeyer, Uprising offers clean ingredient foods made without grains, denatured oils or preservatives, and are both keto and paleo-friendly, high in fiber and protein.
