County leaders approve VAWA grant application from Scheibmeir

By Jerrie Whiteley Kathy Scheibmeir advocates for victim s services For years, Mona Robnett with the Grayson County District Attorney s Office, asked the Grayson County Commissioner s Court to approve the application for the Violence Against Women Act grant that helps to pay for part of the salary for a domestic violence investigator for the DA s Office.  However, on Tuesday, the person who stepped into Robnett s shoes when she retired made the request of commissioners. The change in personnel was not lost on the court as some of them commented on it being the first time the grant had come up since Robnett retired in October.

Deana Patterson to replace Wilma Bush as Grayson County Clerk

Grayson County commissioners started the process of saying goodbye to one county leader by assuring her replacement. County Clerk Wilma Bush announced her retirement plans this week and the county commissioners voted Tuesday to replace her with Grayson County Elections Administrator Deana Patterson.  Patterson worked for Bush for a number of years in Clerk s Office handling elections before Bush convinced commissioners that the county had grown to the point that it needed a separate office to handle elections. Once the commissioners agreed, Bush put Patterson forward as the person to lead that new office. She has done so since that 2013 eventually over seeing the move of that office across the street from the county courthouse to its present location on Houston street.

GC Clerk Wilma Bush set to retire

Herald Democrat Grayson County commissioners will be discussing the retirement of Grayson County Clerk Wilma Bush when they meet at 10 am. Tuesday at the Grayson County Courthouse. Bush, a former legal assistant with the United States Attorney s Office for 11 years, has been with the county since she first won the seat in 2002. In all of that time, she drew only one opponent, Democrat Karen Spencer, in 2018. But Bush s ties to the county clerk s office go back further than her first election.  She began her career as a deputy county clerk in 1977 upon graduation from Denison High School. She graduated from Grayson College with a degree criminal justice.
