The long-awaited Panera Bread in Wilkes-Barre Twp. Commons is scheduled to open June 2, Wilkes-Barre Twp. Zoning Officer Tom Zedolik said Tuesday.
Zedolik completed a final inspection and issued a certificate of occupancy Tuesday for the stand-alone Panera Bread with a drive-thru.

Zedolik said he spoke with the manager and he told him they have hired enough people to open but they continue to do interviews.
Job openings were posted online for a team manager, salad and sandwich maker, overnight baker and cashiers.

McDonaldâs Playland in Edwardsville is being demolished as part of a plan to remodel the fast-food restaurant.
The restaurantâs exterior also is being upgraded and a double drive-thru is being added, Edwardsville Borough manager Cathy Soprano said.
It is the latest McDonaldâs owned by Pat Stella to undergo renovations. McDonaldâs restaurants on Kidder Street and East Northampton Street in Wilkes-Barre and Route 315 in Pittston Twp. were previously renovated.
McDonaldâs restaurant and Playland at 900 Wilkes-Barre Twp. Blvd. in Wilkes-Barre Twp., which is owned by Scott Kavlick, were torn down last year and a new restaurant with a double drive-thru and updated design replaced it.
