NILES Anna J. McCormick Zeaken, 86, passed away on Saturday, May 8, 2021, at home surrounded by her loving family.
Anna was born Nov. 22, 1934, in Crossville, Tennessee, the daughter of Henry A. and Mabel Jones McCormick.
On July 6, 1963, she was united in marriage to William G. Zeaken for 47 years until his passing in 2011.
Anna was a graduate of Mineral Ridge High School. She was employed by General Electric Trumbull Lamp Plant for 28 years. Anna supported her community by volunteering at the polling stations during election time and local Animal Charity events.
Anna enjoyed vacations with her husband, Bill, all her dogs and adopted dogs throughout the years, trips to the casino and horse races, watching the Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeye football teams, listening to country and Southern Gospel music, church dinners and especially family.
A DOG charity volunteer has been nominated for a national award for her work rescuing former racing dogs. Tracey Carter, of the Forever Hounds Trust in Oxford, has been shortlisted for Volunteer of the Year in the Petplan & ADCH Animal Charity Awards 2021. Now in their ninth year, the awards recognise the remarkable work carried out by animal charities and not-for-profit organisations across the UK, Ireland, and Channel Islands. Oxford-based volunteer Ms Carter, has been nominated for the national award for her dedication to rescuing dogs and giving them a happier life. The dog hero volunteers at Forever Hounds Trust which takes in dogs from the racing industry often with severe injuries gained on the racing track. The charity says that dogs often come in with broken legs.
Despite her sacrifice, Ms Salmon said she was surprised to have been nominated.
The modest worker said she felt everyone at Blue Cross centre stepped up to take care of the animals during the Covid crisis over the past year.
“There are many people just getting on with all these sorts of things because they see the need to do so, so this nomination I feel is on behalf of everyone who is ‘doing their bit’ for the wellbeing for animals. We have taken on animals with more behavioural problems [lately] and with social distancing, we need to be able to give them the attention they need.
