The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) asked Thursday, March 5, lawmakers to give their all-out support to the country’s textile industry by helping the Philippine Textile Research Institute (PTRI), the agency’s textile research and development arm, promote its textile-related scientific developments, technologies, services, and programs.

DOST Secretary Fortunato “Boy” T. de la Peña made this call during the Senate webinar on the state of the country’s textile economy held Thursday. “We need the concurrence of our legislators to move the advocacy for textiles to be regarded as an engine for growth in nation-building, while textiles also act to conserve the arts, culture, and tradition, in ties that bind us in community, and weave our society as a people,” he said.
Fund established for families of poultry workers killed in nitrogen leak
A fundraising account aimed to assist the families of the six poultry workers killed in a nitrogen leak Jan. 28 has been set up through Peach State Bank.
The account, named the Gainesville Family Victim Hope Fund, is a collaborative effort by local organizations and churches to provide monetary support to the immediate families of the victims of last month’s chemical leak at Foundation Food Group in Gainesville.
Donations to the fund can be made by calling Peach State Bank at 770-536-1100 or by visiting the bank at 325 Washington Street in Gainesville. In addition, Art Gallegos with the Latinos Conservative Organization is taking personal phone calls with questions at 678-614-5011.

Thanks to the Georgia Department of Transportation’s Quick Response Project Program the narrow bridge on State Route 13 (also known as Atlanta Highway) that spans Flat Creek will soon become pedestrian friendly.
GDOT’s Quick Response Project Program addresses transportation needs such as restriping, intersection improvements, turn lane additions and extensions that can be accomplished in a short period of time and for less than $200,000.
About a year ago Hall County Commissioner Jeff Stowe said he was in communication with the Gainesville-Hall Metropolitan Planning Organization (GHMPO) about the dangerous situation on Atlanta Highway where pedestrian traffic was faced with crossing the creek by having to use the vehicular travel lanes.
