It brings to an end a long career that began almost by accident when his Suffolk secondary school science master decided it would be a good idea to create a radio station with his students.
Ray said: “He wanted it on actual radios and we started, for want of a better word, a pirate radio station and I was one of the DJs.”
When he left school Ray found work as a resident DJ at a London venue in Kingston and one evening the management suggested a live band might be nice.
He said: “Being 18 and knowing everything, I said I can get you a band. The only band I knew was Blackfoot Sue, so we had them on and it was packed. He said, that’s great, can you get someone every week and I said of course I can, so I did.

“We had everything from Santas playing tennis, to a running nativity scene; people really got creative and have raised an incredible amount of money at the same time.”
Santas on the Run goes Freestyle was supported by community partner Whirlwind Sports. The money raised will help CHSW to continue providing vital care and support to children with life-limiting conditions and their families throughout the Christmas period and beyond.

The charity has adapted its care model during the pandemic to provide hospice, home and virtual care, acknowledging the need to stay in touch with families and support them in new ways through these uncertain times.

Festive bikers descended on North Somerset to raise money for a children s charity in Wraxall.
Each year thousands of Santas on motorbikes take part in a festive ride across the region for Children s Hospice South West.
Santas on a Bike was a little different this year, with bikers choosing their own routes and riding solo in aid of the cause.
Around 100 enthusiasts took part in the festive ride from December 4-6, raising more than £3,500 so far.
Julie Draper, community fundraiser at CHSW, said: “Despite Santas on a Bike having to be different this year, we are thrilled with the response from the riders and the public in showing their support for the children and families we care for.
