Trans Mountain was ordered to halt tree clearing along the the pipeline right-of-way after the company says a subcontractor started work without completing its environmental requirements. (CBC)
An order stopping tree cutting and grass mowing across the entire Trans Mountain pipeline expansion project was issued Thursday by the Canada Energy Regulator, the agency that enforces safety and environmental guidelines for pipeline projects across Canada.
A statement released by the CER said it issued the order to immediately stop all clearing activity to prevent harm to nesting birds in the pipeline project s right of way and to ensure Trans Mountain is correcting any issues it has in relation to contractor oversight and management.

Minister of State at the Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine, Senator Pippa Hackett today announced the results of an Open Call for Farm and Community Biodiversity Initiatives. 24 groups, of the 54 which responded to the Call, have been chosen to implement their projects over the next 18 months.
Listing the projects which have been allocated funding, the Minister stated,
“I am very excited to see the wonderful projects that this Call is going to fund. It is really positive to see the ideas so many small farm and community groups have come up with to impact positively on their own local environment. 24 groups have been chosen to implement locally-led farm and community biodiversity initiatives over the next 18 months.
Minister of State Pippa Hackett has announced the results of a €3 million open call. 54 groups across the country responded to the call, with 24 successful.
Minister Hackett had originally allocated €1.25 million in funding however, the budget was then increased due to the response to the open call.
The projects selected will focus on the promotion of biodiversity through collaboration amongst farming groups, community and local action groups who engage with the wider population.
