Hickory was down 3-0 heading into the bottom of the fifth before rallying for four runs in the bottom of the fifth. Hickory tacked on another run in the sixth inning, but Winston-Salem scored four runs of their own in the top of the seventh and held on for the win. Blaine Crim once again shined for the Crawdads on offense. He went two-for-four with a run scored and an RBI. Crim’s run and RBI came off of a solo home run in the sixth inning. He has a current batting average of .385. Justin Foscue and Miguel Aparicio each had a pair of RBI.

PAUL GARBER/WFDD Minor League Baseball returned across the country and to Triad ballparks Tuesday for the first time since 2019.  Baseball was back at Truist Stadium as the Winston-Salem Dash began their season against the Rome Braves. The pandemic wiped out the entire 2020 minor-league schedule. C.J. Johnson is president of the Dash. He says it was great to be back after losing last season. I think everybody is just so excited to come back out and be able to gather safely . what you think about when you think about summer is going to a baseball game, and so I think it will be a lot of fun to be had,” he says. 

COVID-19 case counts in Forsyth near 35,500 mark

Daily COVID-19 case counts increased modestly in Forsyth County and statewide after reaching four-week lows on Tuesday. The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services reported Wednesday that Forsyth had 44 new cases. That s up from 27 in Tuesday s report — the lowest daily count since 13 were reported on April 6. The average daily case count in Forsyth has been at 62 over the past two weeks. That was up from 45 in the previous two-week period, according to Forsyth health director Joshua Swift. Overall, there have been 35,494 cases in Forsyth during the pandemic. No additional COVID-19 related deaths were reported, with the total remaining at 374.
