A week after city council waived almost $193,000 in building permit and wastewater fees for the Marguerita Residence Corporation, the group is asking city hall for a cost overrun guarantee of up to $750,000.

“Our expectation is that we won’t be required to draw on it,” Bruce Hynes, chairman of the corporation building an 88-unit seniors’ apartment building on the site of the former St. Vincent de Paul Hospital, said Monday.
A third of the apartments are to be rent-geared-to-income.

The 138-year-old St. Vincent de Paul Hospital will be demolished to make way for a 88-unit seniors’ residence.
The federal and provincial governments have committed $2 million toward the project to be built by the Marguerita Residence Corporation, which is the same group that built Wall Street Village next door.

Bruce Hynes, chairman of the Marguerita non-profit group, said the total cost of the project is estimated at $18-19 million and it is expected to be finished in late 2023 or early 2024.
