FORT SMITH The Ladies’ Auxiliary of Immaculate Conception Church is about to send its youngest member to kindergarten.
Riley Becker began attending the group’s weekly crafters’ meetings when she was only eight weeks old, and as she grew, she became an indispensable helper to the dozens of grandmas there.
“Today I filled cups with ice. Last week I helped the cooks and cut ribbons,” Becker said.

MACOMB Altrusa International of Macomb was organized by the Extension Committee of the Galesburg, IL, club and recognized at an organizational dinner on March 24, 1961. The Club s official charter was presented on November 29, 1961. A celebration of 60 years of service to Macomb and McDonough County was celebrated at the Everly Park Shelter House on May 26, 2021. In addition to hosting a birthday party, the Club initiated two new members and installed new officers for the 2021-2022 year. Membership longevity and past presidents were also recognized.
The Fort Hood Spousesâ Club presented $30,000 in grants to local organizations who serve military and their families through community outreach Monday at the Fort Hood Spousesâ Club headquarters.
Organization representatives shared personal stories about how the organization helped them and inspired them to help others in the same way.
âIt is definitely humbling to know that weâre helping so many people, and hearing their personal stories really brings it home for us,â Dana Key, FHSC president shared. âIt makes all the long nights and all the hard work worth it.â
The Fort Hood Spousesâ Club is a non-profit organization created to improve the quality of life at the Great Place. The organization participates in charitable work, activities and projects.

Leota M. Davis, 84, of Merrill, formerly of Irma, passed away Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Woodland Court Elder Services, Merrill under the care of Aspirus Hospice Services. Leota was born May 30, 1936 in Irma, Wisconsin, daughter of the late Emil and Mildred ‘Tuddy’ (Dettmering) Ricci. She married John J. Davis on August 31, 1957. He preceded her in death on June 22, 1995.Leota graduated from Merrill High School in 1954. She attended Lincoln County Teachers College and graduated in 1956. She earned her Bachelors of Science degree from University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point in 1967. Leota began her teaching career in 1956 teaching at one-room schoolhouses. Those schools included Newwood, Schulz Spur, and North Star. In August of 1962, she accepted a position with Merrill Area Public Schools (MAPS) teaching math and science at the junior hig
Recently, Boyd showed the knives he makes at the Holiday Bazaar at the Joseph Community Center.
âI started out with knives. Theyâre my bread and butter,â he said last week. âBut I do a lot of actual blacksmithing work, making blacksmithing tools and decorative hooks, bottle openers, horseshoes, gates and all sorts of metalwork.â
The 19-year-old has been operating his business for about two years out of a shop at the home of his parents, Rick and Robin Boyd, in Lostine. He started learning about blacksmithing about three years ago from Alec Steele on YouTube, a young man about Boydâs age in the United Kingdom.
