Many Zimbabweans applauded the government for bestowing the honour on the supremely talented musician who tragically died on Tuesday night at the age of 31. While a post mortem is yet to be conducted for the flawed genius, doctors at the Mbuya Dorcas Hospital in Waterfalls who pronounced him dead on arrival revealed that the musician’s sugar levels were dangerously elevated. The late Zimdancehall chanter Soul Jah Love has been declared a liberation hero by President Emmerson Mnangagwa. The musician, born Soul Musaka, died on Tuesday night at the age of 31, at the Mbuya Dorcas Hospital in Harare.
The announcement of the chanter’s liberation hero status was generally celebrated by Zimbabweans on social media, who applauded the authorities for honouring the talented musician. However, some people appeared confused by the liberation hero status and questioned the criteria which were used to confer it on Soul Jah Love. Others also took an exception to the government’s alleged double standards when it comes to selecting national heroes.
Zanu PF Secretary for Administration Dr Obert Mpofu announced the latest development.
Soul Jah Love who died on Tuesday at Mbuya Dorcas Hospital in Harare after a short illness. He will be buried on Saturday at Warren Hills at 11am. His body will lie in state in at his home in Msasa Park tomorrow.
In a statement Dr Mpofu said, “His Excellency, the President and First Secretary of Zanu PF, Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa has conferred a Liberation Hero status to the late Cde Soul Muzavazi Musaka who passed away on February 16 at Mbuya Dorcas Hospital.
“The family can be contacted through our Harare Provincial office. I shall be most grateful if you would make the usual arrangements for his burial and payment of benefits to his family. He is from Harare Province,” read the statement.
