Film festival to showcase pre-independence Indian scientific community

MUMBAI : Swatantrata Ka Amrit Mahotsav Ka Vigyaan Filmostav , a science film festival to highlight the role of Indian scientists, science communicators and teachers in the Indian Independence movement will be held between August 13 and 15 to mark India s 75th year of Independence.
This film festival will be organised by Vigyan Prasar, an autonomous organisation of the Ministry of Science and Technology (S&T) that is dedicated to science communication popularisation for over three decades. Vigyan Prasar is jointly organising this film festival with Vijnana Bharati (VIBHA), an NGO, CSIR-NISCPR and Films Division, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, government of India.

Even before the pandemic began last year, a greater part of the world was already facing the problem of malnutrition. According to the United Nations Children Fund (UNICEF), 21.3 per cent of the children were stunted due to lack of nutrition in 2019. 4 out of 5 of these stunted children lived in Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. The Coronavirus pandemic has put into spotlight the issue of hunger as one of the major calamities which could follow the economic devastation in the South countries. Keeping the threat in mind, the United Nations has declared 2021, as the International Year of Fruits and Vegetables.

Studies estimate that India produces as much as two times the amount of calories it consumes. Union Health Minister Harsh Vardhan has launched an initiative aimed at spreading awareness about nutrition and locally available nutritious food, fruits, and vegetables, a statement said on Wednesday.
Vijnana Bharati (Vibha), Global Indian Scientists and Technocrats (GIST) Forum, Vigyan Prasar, and Pravasi Bharatiya Academic and Scientific Sampark (PRABHASS) have come together to launch mission Aahaar Kranti with the motto of Uttam Aahaar-Uttam Vichaar (Good Diet-Good Cognition).

The mission is being launched by Vijnana Bharati (Vibha) and Global Indian Scientists and Technocrats Forum (GIST) with the motto of âGood Diet-Good Cognition .
As per the official statement, the mission has been designed to address the particular problem being faced by India and the world called âhunger and diseases in abundance . It will work to rouse the people to the values of India s traditional diet, to the healing powers of local fruits and vegetables, and the miracles of a balanced diet.
